Peer to Peer Youth Concert Series Kick-Off

For the first time in 16 years, there are multiple go-go bands comprised of DC Public School students. For years, weekly go-go concerts attended and headlined by local students were a staple of the scene. But in 1996, the DC Control Board removed music and trades from DC Public Schools, eradicating the ecosystem that created generations of go-go bands. In 2010, all local youth clubs were shut down, furthering affecting how young people interact with go-go culture. Incidents in Navy Yard and subsequent juvenile curfew zones in 2025 show the need for spaces where young people can have fun and feel safe.
The Go-Go Museum & Café is now working to bring back the fun of peer to peer go-go shows. On Friday, February 20th at 6 PM, The museum will host a sold-out Youth Go-Go Concert, showcasing young artists performing for their peers. There have been no regular youth-centered go-go showcases for more than 15 years outside of the DC Department of Parks and Recreation’s (DPR) Late Night Hype program.
Friday’s show will be the first of many which will help reacquaint the youth to the culture and keep go-go alive! Join us this year, as we kick off the monthly “Peer to Peer Youth Concert Series.”
