Afro House: Spirit Fest 2026

We turn to Black History Month to reflect on the past while dreaming of the future. So many of us forget to care for ourselves in the present, overlooking the spiritual compass inside. How can empower ourselves to blossom in an often-unforgiving world? What does mental health, literacy, and spiritual wellness look and feel like? On 2/28, the Anacostia Arts Center will host Afro House: Spirit Fest in partnership with Grounded, The Go-Go Museum, and Busboys and Poets Anacostia from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The festival includes live performances from local creatives , a creative marketplace, and so much more. We’re thankful for our partners and look forward to celebrating in their spaces while our building is under construction. Stay tuned for more additions to the schedule!
Activities Include:
- Black Owned Marketplace @ The Go-Go Museum
- Crate Convention Takeover @ The Go-Go Museum
Join DJ RBI and his crews as he assembles the music selectors for the marketplace as well as adding The Crate Convention pop-up to this edition of AFRO HOUSE!
As usual, DJ RBI and his legion of DJ will be in the house to provide the soundtack for the day.
- Beautiful Brown Rainbow: Candle Making Class @ Busboys and Poets Anacostia
The Beautiful Brown Rainbow (TBBR) invites you to a hands-on scented soy candle-making class, where we will fill a beautiful lotus flower glass vessel, with a lovely aroma. Bonus: Your candle vessel is reusable, making it a keepsake for continued enjoyment! Along the way, you’ll learn the essentials of candle care and safety—because at TBBR, we believe that caring for your candles is just as important as caring for yourself. Our handcrafted experiences are designed to inspire self-sufficiency, creativity, and mindfulness.
Candle class is first come, first serve.
- Featured Artist: Malik DOPE @Busboys and Poets Anacostia
Malik DOPE will host an immersive drumming experience, showcasing his artistic style while connecting the audience to his world of rhythm and flow state.
- Immersive Soundbath with Greenery @ Grounded
- Roots & Remembrance: A Storytelling Gathering @ Grounded
Join We The Diaspora and Grounded for an intimate evening of storytelling and ancestral reflection centered on plants and memory. Roots & Remembrance is a community gathering that invites us to slow down, listen, and share the knowledge passed down through our families, whether through herbs, gardens, healing practices, or lessons in tending the earth.
Through guided reflections, we’ll explore how plant wisdom connects us to elders and future generations. Come as you are, ready to share!
