About the Event
To mark two decades later and celebrate Black Music Month, Coates, a National Book Award-winning writer and McArthur "genius," will join Go-Go Live author and Don't Mute DC activist Natalie Hopkinson in a virtual conversation about cultural politics and erasure.
For his 2000 cover story, Coates interviewed Go-Go icons including Chuck Brown, Andre "WhiteBoy" Johnson, Kato Hammond, Charles C. Stephenson Jr. and more.
The program will be followed by a musical concert by the First Ladies of Go-Go broadcast live from the site of the future Go-Go Museum & Cafe in historic downtown Anacostia, Washington, D.C.
