SUMMARY:Peer to Peer Youth Concert Series Kick-Off
DESCRIPTION:For the first time in 16 years\, there are multiple go-go bands comprised of DC Public School students. For years\, weekly go-go concerts attended and headlined by local students were a staple of the scene. But in 1996\, the DC Control Board removed music and trades from DC Public Schools\, eradicating the ecosystem that created generations of go-go bands. In 2010\, all local youth clubs were shut down\, furthering affecting how young people interact with go-go culture. Incidents in Navy Yard and subsequent juvenile curfew zones in 2025 show the need for spaces where young people can have fun and feel safe. \nThe Go-Go Museum & Café is now working to bring back the fun of peer to peer go-go shows. On Friday\, February 20th at 6 PM\, The museum will host a sold-out Youth Go-Go Concert\, showcasing young artists performing for their peers. There have been no regular youth-centered go-go showcases for more than 15 years outside of the DC Department of Parks and Recreation’s (DPR) Late Night Hype program. \nFriday’s show will be the first of many which will help reacquaint the youth to the culture and keep go-go alive! Join us this year\, as we kick off the monthly “Peer to Peer Youth Concert Series.” \n  \nFeaturing: \nNext Gen Krank \nPanthers Funk Allstars \n  \nTime: Friday\, February 20th\, 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM \nLocation: The Go-Go Museum & Café \nEvent: Sold-out \nEmail info@gogomuseumcafe.com for media inquiries

We’re thankful for our partners and look forward to celebrating in their spaces while our building is under construction. Stay tuned for more additions to the schedule! \n  \nActivities Include: \n\nBlack Owned Marketplace @ The Go-Go Museum\n\n\nCrate Convention Takeover @ The Go-Go Museum\n\nJoin DJ RBI and his crews as he assembles the music selectors for the marketplace as well as adding The Crate Convention pop-up to this edition of AFRO HOUSE! \nAs usual\, DJ RBI and his legion of DJ will be in the house to provide the soundtack for the day. \n  \n\nBeautiful Brown Rainbow: Candle Making Class @ Busboys and Poets Anacostia\n\nThe Beautiful Brown Rainbow (TBBR) invites you to a hands-on scented soy candle-making class\, where we will fill a beautiful lotus flower glass vessel\, with a lovely aroma. Bonus: Your candle vessel is reusable\, making it a keepsake for continued enjoyment! Along the way\, you’ll learn the essentials of candle care and safety—because at TBBR\, we believe that caring for your candles is just as important as caring for yourself. Our handcrafted experiences are designed to inspire self-sufficiency\, creativity\, and mindfulness. \nCandle class is first come\, first serve. \n  \n\nFeatured Artist: Malik DOPE @Busboys and Poets Anacostia\n\nMalik DOPE will host an immersive drumming experience\, showcasing his artistic style while connecting the audience to his world of rhythm and flow state. \n  \n\nImmersive Soundbath with Greenery @ Grounded\n\n\nRoots & Remembrance: A Storytelling Gathering @ Grounded\n\nJoin We The Diaspora and Grounded for an intimate evening of storytelling and ancestral reflection centered on plants and memory. Come as you are\, ready to share! \n  \nSponsored By BLACC (Powered By AHF) \nThe Black Leadership AIDS Crisis Coalition (BLACC) is an initiative of AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF). The group was developed to create a coalition of Black-American cultural influencers and health advocates\, that through the use of innovative\, culturally relevant messaging and initiatives\, are revolutionizing outreach to the Black American community and elevating the education and awareness of wellness and sexual health and bringing greater awareness to the social justice issues disproportionately impacting the health and wellness of Black Americans.
